BREAKTHROUGH RESULTS

Accelerate Academic Achievement

Using a unified approach to goal-setting can transform students’ trajectories, taking them from falling short of academic standards to meeting or even surpassing their academic aspirations.

A Leadership Program to Improve Academic Outcomes

Academic achievement is one of the most prominent factors used to determine a school’s success. When student achievement data such as recent NAEP scores indicate a downward trend in student reading and math achievement, or state or local data indicate that students are not reaching other learning benchmarks, panic sets in throughout the school community. In response, schools often double down on instructional improvement efforts. However, research has shown that there are other—equally important—factors such as executive function, physical safety, and self-awareness that work in tandem to impact student achievement. Prioritizing these other factors can lead to increased learning engagement, improved levels of resilience; and most importantly, better academic outcomes.

What Educators Are Saying

“We’re an at-risk school, so we work with children that are low GPA, behavior problems, credit deficient, and get them to graduate. We use the Leader in Me resources to fuel our curriculum for our empower hour. Which is 30 min, 4 times a week. And during that time, our teachers tap into the 7 Habits with our students. And it has been life changing. Our graduation rate increased 13% this school year alone. So we are seeing the fruits of our labor using this process.”

— Marie Laurino, Principal, Walton Academy Charter School

“My students are my biggest accountability partners. I’ve seen them take it and grow emotionally and speak to things they feel in their leadership roles, encouraging each other, calling each other to action, synergizing; it’s been amazing to see the transformation of our students.”

— Lauren Butler, Teacher, Renaissance Charter School

“The Leader in Me program helps students learn how to become self-reliant, take initiative, plan ahead, set and track goals, do their homework, prioritize their time, manage their emotions, be considerate of others, express their viewpoint persuasively, resolve conflicts, find creative solutions, value differences, and live a balanced life. The process helps students develop the skills and self-confidence they need to lead their lives and succeed in school and beyond.”
